Match, The: The Day the Game of Golf Changed Forever
Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 4 Date: 2008-12-30
Summary: Interesting golf history
... This book was interesting from a historical perspective. It probably wouldn't be something a non-golfer would appreciate, but it was a fun read. It told a story of some historic golfers that I didn't know much about, but it gave you a appreciation for how the game has developed in recent years. I would recomend it to any golfer that thinks golf begins with Tiger.

Summary: Great Book if you like to read about Golf
... Amazing recap of a real Match between 4 golf legends. Frost works the story like a great golf course and weaves in a wonderful history of the 4 legends and the how the game of golf changed from an amateur world to the professional world that we all know today. This book is for someone that loves golf....if they are not an avid golfer, I am not sure this book will hold the interest of a general sport fan or just novel reader. I recommend the good, great read. Enjoy

Summary: A Battle Of (The) Ages!
... Is this the greatest golf match ever played? After reading this book, I would imagine most people would say, "yes." It's hard to argue against that claim. This not only was an incredible display of golf, but pitted "old verses new," "amateur vs. professional," "hot shots" vs. "has-beens." Actually, Ken Venturi and Harvie Ward weren't just newcomers on the scene. They had established themselves as young guys who could beat anyone, young or old. In today's world, they would have young pros.(Picture a young Tiger Woods

Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 4 Date: 2008-11-30 Summary: Very Easy to Use ... I found the book very informative with good figures and explanations. The only drawback is the format trying to include many different trainer's hints after each chapter. Some of these, although useful, did not seem to match the topic discussed as well as they should. I am glad I bought it. ...more

The New Yorker Book of Golf Cartoons (New Yorker Book of Cartoons)
Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 4 Date: 2004-04-12 Summary: Excellent Humor about "Course" and "Off-Course" Moments ... This book only lacks a knowledgeable introduction by a humorist, top golfer or pro, or cartoonist to make it a five-star offering. To me, the best humor is one that captures the reality of how the viewer perceives life. In the case of The New Yorker Book of Golf Cartoons, every golfer will recognize her- or himself . . . and members of past foursomes. Unlike most sports cartoons, these wonderful offerings provide both female and male perspectives as players. There's still the battle of the sexes around the missing ...more
[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2006-11-05 Summary: The Perfect Gift!!! ... I searched and searched for a present for my golf-mad boyfriend, and this was by far the best golf book I could have bought him. Even I enjoy and can relate to the cartoons, fantastic buy and sits proudly on his bookshelf. ...more

Editorial Reviews ... Product Description | A hilarious hole in one! Golfers are, to say the least, dedicated (some would argue certifiable) and these cartoons bring out the best of the humor of the gameāfrom its triumphs to its frustrations. The New Yorker 's cartoon editor Bob Mankoff has selected the very best golf cartoons for this book from the magazine's amazing artists. And the best of The New Yorker means cartoonists like Charles Addams, Peter Arno, George Booth, Roz Chast, Edward Koren, and William Steig. George Plimpton...more

The Negotiable Golf Swing: How to Improve Your Game Without Picture-Perfect Form
Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-12-11 Summary: Golf Lover? The Negotiable Golf Swing is a MUST BUY ... The game of golf is described as one of the most difficult games on the planet. Doesn't that go against the sense of the word, "game?" Tiger Woods may have transcended the sport, but golf professionals of late have been fixated on body mechanics and positions. Mr. Laurentino's philosophy and methodology is a refreshing look at how the game of golf can be fun again. Any person with athletic ability can pick up a football or baseball and throw it. However, this same group cannot all hit a golf ball. Why? Because they ...more
[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-12-12 Summary: The reviews are the same for a reason. ... I got it last night and I'm on page 107. So my judgments obvioulsy arent complete yet. But, I feel so much smarter now, I always knew what the things they said you had to do on your swing were, but i never knew why. This book shows it. Just the part on ball flights along is breathtaking. I'll do another review when I finish the book and apply this on the course. But I feel like I could coach Tiger now. Not hit like him! But coach him (not really but you get the point)! ...more
[3] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-09-24 Summary: An Essential for Your Golf Library ... Most of my comments have been said elsewhere, but as the dubious owner of dozens of golf instruction books (including the excellent Pelz putting and short games tomes) I can say that this book is in the top tier. The ball flight description alone is worth the price of admission. If, over the course of your golfing life, you buy five instructional books - this should make your list. ...more
[4] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-12-03 Summary: Finally, I understand... ... Why is Tiger's swing so different to Furyk's yet both "get the job done"? But don't just stop at that comparison - look at all the pros and there are just so many variations. So it's very refreshing to see a PGA pro discuss different aspects of the swing and explain what is negotiable and what isn't, but more importantly, WHY, and what to look at and correct if you want to hit the ball better. There's a reason why out of 20 reviewers so far, all have given this book a 5 star review. And why some of those reviewers, ...more
Editorial Reviews ... Product Description | A negotiable golf swing is a compatible arrangement of the many permissible alternatives that, while not conforming to the computer models of the perfect golf swing, can still function very well to get the job done. By identifying and organizing these negotiable swing components, The Negotiable Golf Swing will show you how you can use basic swing components and their permissible permutations to negotiate a better game of golf. In other words, you can learn how to play a better game of...more
