Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2010-01-09 Summary: A must have must do if you play golf ... If you play golf once a week or every day this book is a must read, especially if you are in the over 50 crowd and your range of motion has suffered from years of neglect, meaning stretching, weight training, fitness walking, biking etc. To jump out of the car and into the cart is an invitation for injury even if you are young and fit. It's just that the young and fit don't break as easily or quickly as the older and stiffer like myself. What I like about this book is that he covers all the aspects of how to play good ...more

Initial reading makes sense so am looking forward to using the suggestions. ...more
[4] Rating: 4 Date: 2009-09-12 Summary: Good exercises - but need an exercise ball for full effect ... Good exercises- but you need to buy an exercise ball as well -many of the exercises utilize it. ...more
Editorial Reviews ... Product Description | Now in paperback, the official physician to the PGA Tour shares his groundbreaking research on preventing back pain and adding more yards to your drives. It is estimated that half of all recreational golfers and one-third of all professional golfers suffer from some form of lower-back pain. Conventional wisdom suggests that the twisting nature of the golf swing is the sole culprit. But research conducted by sports-medicine specialist Vijay Vad, M.D., reveals that the swing is only one...more
Sudden Death
Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2010-01-17 Summary: Sudden Death Entertaining and Informative!! ... Sudden Death is not in my normal genre of book selection . I decided that I wanted to read Michael Balkind's books because of his warm and engaging presence on twitter. Needless to say I was not disappointed. Michael gives so much in this book that you do not expect in a golf thriller. I have a far better understanding of golf, fine wine and dining. Theres a lot of attention to detail which makes this book extremely approachable for the non golfing reader. You will find while reading this book that the main character ...more

Its great when you discover a new author.I got Michaels book by pure chance and Sudden Death is an awesome read.Sent to America for it and it couldn't come quick enough. From the moment i started reading i couldn't put it down ,even if you aint a golf fan like myself.Great characters and very gripping storyline. Will be ordering Dead ball as soon as i can and hopefully will be as addictive as Sudden Death. ...more

[4] Rating: 5 Date: 2009-08-31 Summary: Sudden Death ... It was awesome! I am not a sports nut but it had me from the first chapter. It felt like I was there with them at every turn. If you are a James Patterson fan then you will love Michael Balkind. I liked it so much I bought his 2nd book Dead Ball and once again it was great! I can hardly wait for his next book. (I wish he'd write faster!) Love love love. You won't be disappointed. ...more

Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2009-10-26 Summary: Great Golf Booik ... I learned more in the 1st 3 chapters than I learned from any lesson. And the chapter on what I call "Golf Speak" explained all the hook, slice, fade etc. Great book for beginner or advanced golfer. He talks my language. ...more
[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2009-09-20 Summary: Before Tigermania there was this guy named Jack... ... And his book is an excellent read for anyone who plays the game. Jack shares an awful lot of what made him the greatest golfer of his time (and I'm still not convinced of all time). Having owned the original, the revised version is even better. This book is a must for any golfer's library. ...more
[3] Rating: 4 Date: 2009-04-14 Summary: Great insights, but not an easy book for golf beginners ... Jack does a great job in going through his swing, and it provides quite some interesting and thought-provoking suggestions on why he did things a certain way. Nevertheless, the book is quite long to read, and in my opinion, requires already some understanding about how a golf swing works. For this, I would suggest golf newcomers to start with Ben Hogan's "Five lessons" first. Building on that one, Jack's book offers an array of options to adapt and improve your swing, doubtless. ...more
[4] Rating: 4 Date: 2009-01-15 Summary: very interesting, lots of good info ... I enjoyed this book and found a lot of helpful information and interesting history. Nicklaus was just a little before my golfing "time" so I know who is but not a lot about him. The book talks a lot about his career history - that was great. The instruction information is also very good an easy to understand. He gets bogged down and repeats himself sometimes. Still worth the read for any golfer. ...more

Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 4 Date: 2010-02-28 Summary: Self awareness is the path to par ... For many people, golf is a game of "could've, would've, should've." I could've hit that shot better. I would've hit that shot better if I had done this or that. I should've hit that shot better. Normally, rational people seem to develop unrealistic expectations upon arrival at the golf course. Instead of having fun, they put pressure on themselves to make a certain shot or achieve a particular score. If that doesn't happen, frustration and self-doubt set in. A normally relaxing game becomes a test of self worth. Attempts ...more
[2] Rating: 4 Date: 2009-05-16 Summary: trust your inner self ... This book provides excellent guidance regarding trusting yourself to find the best of your game. The writing style is engaging. The writer becomes a mentor for you. This is a person you would like to know. You do come to know him as a friend and guide to a stress free approach to golf. ...more
[3] Rating: 4 Date: 2009-04-14 Summary: A Good Update to The Original ... I bought the original version quite a while ago and wanted to revisit the topic, so I bought this revised edition. The inner game principles and exercises remain valid, but are enhanced by apporpriate connection to technical teaching. The simple act of paying attention in various ways to the various aspects of the game does actually enhance the enjoyment of the game -- at least for me. One can get over-driven to be technically correct and results focused and forget the simple pleasure of the game. So far I am only ...more
[4] Rating: 5 Date: 2009-01-14 Summary: Applying foucs to your golf game ... I re-read this book every couple of years, and enjoy it thoroughly. When a golfer has studied all the technical swing mechanics books, seen all the lesson videos and taken every tip from every source, he/she still needs to learn how to prepare himself mentally to play the game, and more importantly - improve his game. This book makes it possible to improve rapidly and to continue improving. ...more

[2] ... Review | Long before Dr. Bob Rotella made tweaking a golfer's head as important as tweaking his swing, Tim Gallwey, who knew virtually nothing about the mechanics of the game when he penned the first edition of this visionary work, understood that even the best technique collapses when the mind cracks under the game's pressure. Gallwey's ultimate insight into the game was that a golfer's mind is a golfer's worst enemy; too much thinking only gets in the way. The new edition of this groundbreaking instructional...more
